Scientists have identified a new species of giant anaconda in the Amazon, measuring up to 7.5 meters in length and weighing nearly 500 kilograms, making it the world’s largest and heaviest known snake.
Previously, four anaconda species were known, with the green anaconda being the largest. However, a recent study revealed that the green anaconda is genetically two different species.
Researchers, collaborating with the Waorani people, discovered and studied specimens of the newly named northern green anaconda in the Baihuaeri Waorani Territory in the Ecuadorian Amazon.
