Earth has endured 12 months of temperatures 1.5C hotter than the pre-industrial era for the first time on record, Europe’s climate monitor said Thursday.

The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) service said the February 2023 to January 2024 period saw warming of 1.52 degrees Celsius above the 19th century benchmark, although scientists stressed that this does not mean a permanent breach of the key Paris deal threshold.
