Austrian pharmaceuticals heiress Marlene Engelhorn is taking a unique approach to address wealth inequality after inheriting USD27.4 million from her grandmother.
Engelhorn has formed a citizens’ group called the Good Council for Redistribution, where she invited 10,000 randomly selected Austrian citizens to help decide how to redistribute the inheritance, the Daily Mail reported.
The council, comprising 50 participants and 15 substitutes, will collaborate with academics and civil society organizations.
Engelhorn is a vocal advocate for higher taxes on the wealthy, having previously joined the Millionaires for Humanity event in Amsterdam, campaigning for increased taxes on the rich.
In 2021, the 31-year-old founded “Tax Me Now,” an organization advocating for progressive tax policies in German-speaking countries.
