In 2022, the Phoboucraa Foundation has drawn up a roadmap marked by bold strategic choices, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable development in the South.

Focused on coherence and efficiency, the Foundation has taken significant steps to better understand and respond to the major challenges facing the regions of the South. It has continued to mobilize its resources to support applied scientific research, education and entrepreneurship, all with a view to sustainability.

The OCP Foundation has also set up a Scientific Monitoring Committee to evaluate and promote the research projects funded, thus ensuring that initiatives are given concrete direction and facilitating their transformation into viable projects with a real impact.

In addition, the Phoboucraa Foundation has stepped up its efforts in the field of education to promote academic excellence and a high-performance education system in Morocco’s southern regions.

Through strategic partnerships with organizations such as the Sahara Astronomy Association and UM6P, the Foundation has set up various programs aimed at developing students’ skills, fostering academic excellence and offering new opportunities to young people.

Strategic initiatives have been implemented by the Foundation to promote access to higher education and optimize the chances of success for students in the Southern Regions. In 2022, three high schools were sponsored through the Laâyoune High School Sponsorship Program. As part of this project, 113 high school students were integrated into the Club de l’Excellence, while 1,500 students benefited from the Forum de l’Orientation, reinforcing the Foundation’s commitment to education.

In close collaboration with UM6P’s Institut Supérieur des Sciences Biologiques et Paramédicales (ISSBP), the Phosboucraâ Foundation has set up a program to help young high-school students in the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region gain access to the Licence Professionnelle en Soins Infirmiers.

This initiative aims to ensure their professional integration in a promising sector. The results are tangible, with the “Licence en Soins Infirmiers” course presented in 17 high schools, 40 candidates registered for the entrance exam, and 15 candidates selected.

In 2022, the Foundation made a major strategic decision to strengthen its program aimed at developing the skills of young entrepreneurs, cooperatives and players in the local entrepreneurial ecosystem. Under the Innovative Entrepreneurship program, 152 business models were put into practice, leading to the creation of 66 companies during the year.

The Women Entrepreneurship Program trained 147 women through 84 workshops, requiring a total of 190 hours of training. These efforts led to the conception of 64 project ideas. As for the Scale-up Program, 72 companies benefited from support, with 36 group workshops and 56 coaching sessions.

At the same time, the Skills Development Program was responsible for 72 vocational training sessions, involving the training of 350 entrepreneurs and workers, as well as the implementation of two mentoring programs.

The Foundation’s Technological Innovation Promotion Program saw sustained activity in 2022, with the organization of 4 events dedicated to promoting innovation. This initiative also led to the creation of 10 technological prototypes and the support of 8 companies in the adoption of new technologies. At the same time, the Foundation established 2 partnerships with research institutes.

Support for sector-based cooperatives was also dynamic. As part of the INFARMER program, the Foundation supported 31 beneficiaries in the Agritech sector. It also provided training for 20 cooperatives in the textile sector and launched 4 certification courses. As regards support for Moubadarat financing structures, the Foundation has successfully financed 21 projects, while 45 others are currently being evaluated and supported.

To promote the resilience of sustainable saline agriculture, the Foundation has set up 11 experimental platforms in various regions of the South. It has also helped train over 100 farmers in the established fields. Thanks to a well-developed strategy, these initiatives have led to yields of up to 75 tonnes per hectare, made possible by the introduction of new varieties and the use of high-performance mixes.
