Australian Hollywood star Joel Edgerton discussed his on and off screen relationship with fellow actor Timothee Chalamet, his fascination with the young co-star and their unmatched dynamic in “The King.”
In an exclusive interview with Hespress EN, during the Marrakech international film festival “FIFM”, the actor described his relationship with Chalamet as a bond of “genuine love. We felt very connected.”
Edgerton, with years of practice, channeled his real-life experience into his role in “The King”, a movie he co-wrote and played a pivotal role in, as Sir John Falstaff, Prince Henry’s companion.
Henry, played by Chalamet, relied on Falstaff to navigate through his life as a prince and future king.
“I was really interested and fascinated by Timmy. I love this young generation of actors particularly if they’re good, and Timmy was particularly good. We started to interact in New York and spent a lot of time together and there was just a general interest in each of us to sort of fall in this relationship almost like brothers, or like I was an uncle or brother to him. That was real genuine love for each other,” explained the star.
The actor took part in this FIFM edition as a jury member, alongside Jessica Chastain, Alexander Skarsgard, and more.
“Being on a jury is a big responsibility, I don’t know what film will speak to me until I see it. But what I am interested in is the confidence of a filmmaker, the presentation of their film feels like a complete gesture to what they set out to achieve, you can see the talent even if there are too many stories at once,” concluded Edgerton.
