Spain is committed to bringing the latest technological advances to key sectors in Morocco, said Javier Ponce, Managing Director of the Spanish Center for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI) at a seminar in Rabat entitled “Entrepreneurial innovation at the service of investment.”

The CDTI is ready to integrate new information technologies into the infrastructure, automotive and agricultural sectors in Morocco, where it has invested 5 million euros over the past three years.

The announcement was made at a seminar attended by representatives of some thirty public and private entities from Morocco and Spain. Javier Ponce emphasized that technological cooperation will focus on sectors that are economically crucial to both nations, notably logistics, essential for economies with vast port and airport networks linking several continents, and the automotive industry, where Morocco is the leading producer in Africa and Spain the second largest in the European Union.

The CDTI director also highlighted the agricultural sector, underlining the importance of technological management in this field in the face of the challenges posed by climate change.

He pointed out that “Spain ranks third in the world in terms of technology companies in the agrotechnical sector. Anticipating future changes, including the EU’s planned ban on the use of chemical fertilizers by 2030”, he stressed the need “to adapt agricultural production to the use of biostimulants, a transition that can only be made with the introduction of information technologies”.

José Manuel Durán, CDTI delegate for North Africa and the Middle East, reported that the Spanish public body had helped finance 20 projects in Morocco over the past three years, mobilizing a total budget of 5.3 million euros.
