The United States reaffirmed Monday its steadfast position regarding the issue of the Sahara, reiterating its support for the Moroccan autonomy plan as “serious, credible, and realistic.”

Spokesperson for the United States Department of State, Matthew Miller, clarified that the United States “continues to consider the autonomy plan in the Sahara as serious, credible, and realistic” in order to put an end to the contrived conflict over the region.

Responding to a question about the recent visit by the US Ambassador to Algeria, Elizabeth Moore Aubin, to Tindouf, Matthew clarified that it was part of a visit organized by the United Nations, gathering a large number of international donors, noting that the United States is the largest contributor to humanitarian efforts worldwide.

The American official emphasized that “there were no bilateral talks with the Polisario during this visit.”

Washington’s ambassador to Algiers, meets Polisario “officials” on November 14, as part of a visit to territories wrongly considered by the Algerian press to be part of “Western Sahara.”

The head of the American diplomatic representation in Algeria was photographed  in the company of several members of the Polisario and the leaders of twelve Algerian political parties.

During a press briefing in Washington, the spokesperson said, “we fully support the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in his efforts to intensify the ongoing political process under UN auspices regarding the Sahara, in order to reach a permanent solution to this regional conflict without further delay.”
