Tunisian authorities have revealed the presence of bed bugs in a facility accommodating female students in the Kasserine Governorate in western Tunisia. This marks the first reported case in Tunisia since the widespread infestation in France a few weeks ago.
The First Delegate in the region informed “Tunis Africa News Agency” that precautionary measures have been taken, and the Kasserine Governorate is actively working to contain and eliminate the infestation in the facility housing 54 students.
The same source added that the authorities have contracted with a specialized company to carry out sanitization procedures in the center after evacuating the students and disposing of old furniture and bedding.
No other governorate has reported detecting the presence of bed bugs at this time.
Similar inspection operations are underway in other university accommodation centers in the region, according to the same official.
The Tunisian Ministry of Health activated a “health alert system” earlier this month at border crossings to prevent the entry of bed bugs with the belongings of incoming travelers.
