RPS Group, a UK-based professional services company, has been awarded a new contract to offer crucial support to the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline Project, working alongside esteemed clients, the Office National des Hydrocarbures et des Mines (ONHYM) and Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPC).

The contract entails conducting offshore meteorological and oceanographic measurements for a duration of one year along the proposed pipeline route. RPS Group’s global MetOcean team will lend their expertise to the project, making use of the newly established RPS MetOcean workshop facility in Newbury, near Reading, UK.

The Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project enjoys the backing of OPEC and involves collaboration among 13 countries in West Africa. The project’s overarching objectives include fostering economic prosperity in the region by unlocking the potential of natural gas resources. It also aims to bolster energy security, facilitate the energy transition by promoting access to cleaner fuels, and create an alternative export route to Europe.

Anthony Gaffney, RPS MetOcean Director – UK/EAME, expressed enthusiasm about the endeavor, stating, “We are looking forward to supporting ONHYM and NNPC to gain a greater understanding of MetOcean conditions in this region. Our team has become well-known for our ability to provide accurate, reliable data; our services will support vital decision-making in the development of this prestigious project.”

RPS Group’s involvement in this initiative underscores its commitment to contributing valuable insights and expertise in the field of MetOcean studies. As the project progresses, the partnership between RPS, ONHYM, and NNPC is poised to play a crucial role in ensuring the successful realization of the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline, paving the way for enhanced energy solutions and regional prosperity.

According to its website, the company oversees, designs, and manages projects, and it employs over 5,000 people worldwide. RPS Group’s services extend to sectors such as real estate, energy, transportation, defense, government services, water, and resources.

The Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project, launched in 2016, is deemed by King Mohammed VI as “a plan for peace, African economic integration, and co-development for present and future generations.”

According to Malm Mele Kyari of the NNPC (Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation), the 5,000 km gas pipeline will supply African countries and enable the transportation of gas to Europe through the Maghreb-Europe pipeline.
