The Rabat Agency for Mobility, the new company in charge of the management of activities related to urban public transport in the capital, Salé and Temara, has launched an open call for proposals to supervise the preparatory works of the Tramway Network Development Program.

The tender, whose results will be announced on August 8, set the estimated cost of the works at MAD 7,056 million, and the temporary guarantee is within the limits of MAD 100,000.

According to the details of the request, the tramway network will be extended 23.7 km to the neighborhoods of Ryad, Tamara, Yaqoub al-Mansour, and Sale Jadida during the period from 2023 to 2028.

In another phase, the network will be extended 21.3 km to Agdal, El Boustan, Youssoufia, Laayada, and the Rahma neighborhood, during the period 2025-2030.

These projects come to respond to the demand for public transport in the cities of Rabat, Salé and Temara that comprises 12% of the urban population in Morocco, which requires the organization of the urban public transport network.

According to official data, the Rabat-Salé Tram transports 110,000 passengers daily and records a commercial efficiency estimated at 26.5 travels per kilometer, which makes it the appropriate daily means of transportation.

Last year, the Rabat-Salé Tramway company was transformed into the “National Mobility Company” within the framework of engaging in the national policy of integrated mobility governance with tasks represented in the development, completion and management of all activities related to urban public transport.

The extension of the tramway network will improve access to the city center and the rest of the regions, and in general link the cities of Temara, Sale and Rabat, to facilitate access to important areas such as the Colleges of Sale, the interdisciplinary pole of the Riyad district and the train station of Temara.

The Rabat-Salé Tramway began operating in 2011 with an investment of MAD 3.6 billion, forming the first tramway network in Morocco with a length of about 20 kilometers, which had a positive impact on movement between the two enemies.
