The Central Bureau for Judicial Investigations, acting upon intelligence provided by the General Directorate of National Territory Surveillance, successfully apprehended today an individual affiliated with ISIS.
According to a communiqué from the General Directorate of National Territorial Surveillance, obtained by Hespress, the arrested individual was active in both Morocco and Spain.
This operation is part of the ongoing efforts to counter terrorist threats and thwart extremist activities that endanger the security and stability of both Morocco and Spain.
The joint security operation, conducted in collaboration with the Spanish Civil Guard, resulted in the capture of the suspect in the city of Nador by the Special Force of the General Directorate of National Territorial Surveillance.
Simultaneously, his accomplice was arrested in the city of Lérida by the Spanish Civil Guard.
Investigations by the two agencies revealed that the suspects had connections to elements linked with the ISIS in Syria, as they were allegedly preparing for terrorist operations in Europe under the direction of the terrorist group’s leaders.
The investigation also found that the detainees were in contact with an illegal immigration network to acquire forged identity documents for the execution of their terrorist plans.
The suspect arrested in Nador is currently in theoretical custody as the investigation continues under the supervision of the Public Prosecution Office handling terrorism cases.
The General Directorate of National Territorial Surveillance emphasized that this joint operation highlights the significance of security and intelligence cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and its allies.
