Mehdi Nassouli, a Gnaoua performer, and Brooklyn-based Afro beats band Antibalas shared the stage on Jazzablanca’s last day to treat the crowd to a night of Jazz fusion and Moroccan chants.
As the sun was setting, the crowd gathered in front of the Casa Anfa scene, which hosted several artists over the past days like La Femme, Beth Hart, Nile Rodgers, and Aloe Blacc.
Antibalas’ music blends elements of funk, jazz, and traditional West African rhythms, resulting in a loud and dynamic sound as Casablanca’s audience danced.
Their performance was marked by mesmerizing grooves, which preserved the spirit of Afrobeat and kept Jazzablanca’s core alive and energetic.
After almost an hour, Mehdi Nassouli joined the stage and delivered a variety of Moroccan traditional songs and mesmerizing rhythms.
Nassouli and Antibalas, who collaborated to perform a fusion of traditional African spiritual music with Moroccan and Islamic influences, had a special authenticity and spiritual depth that swept listeners away with their lyrical vocals and skilled instrumentation.
After three days of festivities, and various blends of musical genres to give a soulful jazz feel, Jazzablanca came to an end.
