The United Kingdom’s government announced today on its official website that UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) will no longer accept cash payments at the Visa Application Center and will only accept payments online for visa fees, addressing its change to Moroccan applicants.
This decision followed the implementation of a new, globally consistent digital process for applying online to obtain a UK visa, using an online payment process.
As a result, starting on June 20, 2023, all Moroccan visa applications for the UK must be paid for online.
Currently, applicants can choose to pay in cash at the Visa Application Center or through the official UK government website.
Due to the increasing rarity of paying for a UK visa in cash, these modifications are being made to simplify the payment procedure and put Morocco in line with other important overseas markets, explained the press release shared by the UK government.
Simon Martin, British High Ambassador to Morocco, said that “The UK continues to be a popular choice for those wishing to work, study or just visit. In the year ending December 2022, over 19,000 visas were issued to Moroccan nationals, a 65% increase from the previous year. Now is the time to adopt a fully digital approach to visa payments and streamline the payment process for applicants from across the globe.”
The UK is a destination favored by Moroccans students, as it allows international students to work for up to 20 hours a week via a work permit and a Tier 4 student Visa, with a minimum hourly salary of £9.50.
