AstraZeneca has provided Morocco with 300 biopsy kits for prostate cancer and over 100 EGFR testing kits, said Dr. Viraj Rajadhyaksha, AstraZeneca’s Area Medical Director for the Middle East and Africa in a recent interview with Hespress EN,

Dr. Viraj spoke about the company’s program “Cancer Care Africa,” launched last year, and praised the ongoing partnership with the Lala Salma Foundation. AstraZeneca has also collaborated with the EuroMed University of Fes on the HTA Charaka project.

The focus of AstraZeneca’s endeavors is to revolutionize healthcare in Morocco while building sustainable and resilient healthcare systems across the Middle East and Africa.

Dr. Viraj emphasized their commitment to addressing challenging medical conditions, such as cancer, chronic renal disease, and rare disorders, through early detection and prevention strategies.

Dr. Rajadhyaksha expressed pride in their collaboration with the Moroccan government, recognizing Morocco’s pivotal role as a gateway to Africa and its dedication to patient-centric care and equitable healthcare access.

He also acknowledged Morocco’s achievement of being the first nation in the region to launch a nationwide vaccination campaign against COVID-19, utilizing the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Early detection was highlighted as a crucial factor in improving treatment outcomes. Dr. Viraj pointed out the progress made in introducing new drugs for various medical conditions and stressed AstraZeneca’s mission to ensure equitable access to high-quality healthcare for all Moroccan residents.

“Our mission is to drive equity in access to high-quality healthcare and ensure that all residents of Morocco have the opportunity to avail themselves of such care,” emphasized Dr. Rajadhyaksha.

AstraZeneca plans to introduce cutting-edge products shortly, further enhancing healthcare in Morocco.

Affordability and accessibility of medicines were key concerns addressed by Dr. Rajadhyaksha.

He stressed that AstraZeneca ensures its newly developed medicines and healthcare technologies are accessible to the people, as it is of paramount importance.

In a notable step towards sustainability, AstraZeneca has the region’s first 100% hybrid car fleet in Morocco, contributing to an ambitious zero-carbon program.

Sustainability remains a top priority for the pharmaceutical giant, as it tries to showcase it through its volunteer programs and employee-led coastal cleaning activities.

Furthermore, AstraZeneca’s focus in the Middle East and Africa revolves around non-communicable diseases, which are on the rise in the region.

Collaborating with governments and healthcare providers, the company develops programs aimed at preventing and detecting conditions like diabetes, heart disease, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, and asthma.

AstraZeneca actively works with governments to support the decarbonization of healthcare, further emphasizing its dedication to a sustainable future.

The official shed light on the pharmaceutical giant’s longstanding dedication to Morocco and Africa, ongoing efforts along with potential areas of future collaboration.
