Saudi Arabia will decrease its oil exports to support the falling crude oil prices, following unsuccessful supply cuts by other major oil-producing countries in the OPEC+ alliance.
Starting in July, Saudi Arabia plans to reduce its daily output by 1 million barrels. While other OPEC+ members have agreed to extend previous production cuts, Saudi Arabia sees this reduction as an additional measure to stabilize the market.
Saudi Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Salman referred to the reduction as a “lollipop” during a news conference, indicating that it could be extended if necessary. Although the short-term impact is expected to raise oil prices, the long-term effects will depend on Saudi Arabia’s decision to extend the cuts. The voluntary nature of the reduction provides flexibility for the Saudis to adjust it as needed.
