Arab leaders gathered in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Friday for the 32nd Arab League summit. The summit concluded with the endorsement of the Jeddah Declaration, which calls for Arab unity, an end to foreign interference in the region, and the rejection of all forms of separatism.
The declaration also stressed the need to respect the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of all Arab states. It condemned internal military conflicts, saying that they only serve to exacerbate the suffering of peoples and prevent the realization of their aspirations.
The Jeddah Declaration affirmed that sustainable development, security, stability, and life in peace are inherent rights of the Arab citizen. It called for intensified efforts to combat crime and corruption at all levels.
In view of the political situation in the Arab region, the Jeddah Declaration is fully in line with the principles of Moroccan diplomacy. Morocco has always defended the need for all countries of the League of Arab States to adhere to these principles.
The Jeddah Declaration confirms and strengthens Morocco’s position on a number of issues, including its territorial integrity and the Palestinian cause. The declaration also recognizes the role of the Al-Quds Committee under the chairmanship of King Mohammed VI in defending the city of Al-Quds and the Palestinian cause.
Dr. Khalid Chiat, professor of international relations at the University of Mohammed I in Oujda, provided a thorough analysis of the Jeddah Declaration to Hespress. He said that the component “support for the unity of Arab countries and the rejection of all forms that promote separation, fragmentation, and segregation” is highly relevant.
The professor sees that the declaration is in line with the values that Morocco and the Arab countries hold and defend. “The values promoted by the League of Arab States exist in Morocco, and they represent an expression of spite for movements that claim the creation of states, as of the separatist movement of the Polisario.”
The Moroccan academic stressed that the return of Syria in the League of Arab States was done within the framework of a “consensus around these values that supports unity and not in support for separatist movements.”
Khalid Chiat adds that “the Sovereign, as chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, represents the vision that Morocco has on the Palestinian cause, and in particular in Al-Quds Sharif, as well as that of the Arab League. “
The Jeddah Declaration is a significant step forward for the Arab League. It reaffirms the organization’s commitment to its founding principles and provides a roadmap for the future. The declaration is a victory for Morocco and for all those who believe in the cause of Arab unity.
