Algerian TV channel under fire for appropriating Moroccan Andulusian music event
Thursday 18 May 2023 - 11:30

An Algerian TV channel is currently at the receiving end of a wave of ridicule on social media, after airing a Moroccan-themed Andalusian music evening, falsely attributing it to Algerian heritage.

The channel is accused of appropriating an Andalusian music event that took place in 2019 at a Moroccan theater, and promoting it as part of an Algerian musical event named “Andalusian Music of Algeria.”

The concert was performed by the Orchestra of Fez, and the entire group appeared in traditional Moroccan attire, including caftans and Djellaba.

The channel used this footage to promote a musical event organized by the Algerian Ministry of Culture several years ago.
