Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives (lower house), Rachid Talbi Alami, held, Tuesday in Baku, talks with Azerbaijan’s National Assembly Speaker, Sahiba Gafarova, during which they agreed to strengthen parliamentary relations between the two countries.

Talks were an opportunity to laud ties between the two countries, calling for further efforts to consolidate them through communication between the two legislative institutions.

According to a statement of the House of Representatives, Mr. Talbi Alami and Ms. Gafarova voiced “pride” over the quality of relations between the two countries, based on mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity and continued support in regional and international forums.

Mrs. Gafarova welcomed the level of parliamentary relations between the two countries, stressing the importance of further strengthening them, given the centrality of parliaments in modern democracies.

The official added her country is keen to develop relations with Morocco, given the two countries’ shared values and common concerns, urging both parliaments to act for the consolidation of these relations, especially in cultural, economic and political realms.

She also welcomed Morocco’s active contribution to the parliamentary action of the Non-Aligned Movement, a network created at the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan.

For his part, Mr. Talbi Alami briefed his peer on the major projects launched in Morocco under the leadership of King Mohammed VI and presented Morocco’s parliamentary experience. He called for strengthening dialogue, consultation and communication between the Moroccan House of Representatives and the National Assembly of Azerbaijan.

The Moroccan speaker extended, on this occasion, an invitation to his Azerbaijani peer to attend the Parliamentary Conference on Interfaith Dialogue, to be held June 13 to 15 in Marrakech.
