Health Minister Younes Bjijou said on Thursday before the Lower House that accelerating project implementation, ensuring effective access to quality healthcare services, maintaining continuity of care and reducing waiting times for healthcare services are the main challenges facing the next phase.

Presenting his department’s draft sectoral budget for 2027 before the House’s Social Sectors Committee, Bjijou said that effectively implementing the reform requires shifting from multiple ongoing projects to focusing efforts on the priorities with the greatest impact, from planning to accelerating implementation, and from monitoring resources to evaluating achieved results.

He explained that the Ministry’s efforts will focus on seven interrelated priorities, based on the Government Program’s guidelines and aimed at having a tangible impact on the performance of the healthcare system and the quality of services, particularly upgrading healthcare provision and adapting it to the population’s needs.

In this regard, the minister announced that the provincial hospitals of Settat and Kenitra will be transformed into university hospitals (CHUs), bringing third-level healthcare services closer to the populations of the two provinces and providing facilities for clinical training and hospital internships for students enrolled in the medical faculties established there.

He also announced the creation of a new university hospital in Casablanca, with a “large bed capacity”, to meet the needs of the region’s population and address the demographic pressure it is experiencing.
