This May, the southern city of Dakhla hosted the fourth edition of the International Congress on Desert Economy, annually organized by the National School of Business and Management (ENCG), which the organizers describe as “an exceptional edition.”
Professor Elouali Aailal, the founder and president of this congress, said that this edition of the event was unmatched in terms of the distinguished participation of eminent scientific and professional personalities and the members of the scientific committee, their prestigious universities, affiliations, and research institutes on deserts and arid lands.
He applauded the diverse nationalities of all participants and hailed the importance, specificity, actuality, and relevance of the themes and the subjects that were discussed.
The International Congress, based on the concept of thinking globally and acting locally, is the pioneer and the first global scientific research forum on arid regions, the Sahara, and desert economic development.
According to Elouali, the event is part of Morocco’s strong commitment and responsibility to its continent.
This engagement is shaped by historical, geographical, and cultural ties, and it is most visible in Morocco’s Southern Provinces, which serve as a bridge between Morocco and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Although these provinces are located in the desert, they have made considerable progress in record time, thanks to implementing some specific development strategies adapted to Saharan regions, including the New Development Model for Morocco’s Southern Provinces.
