Despite the ongoing criticism the concert is receiving and the social media boycott campaign, the performance’s organizers are still marketing the upcoming Booba event, according to Hespress AR.
Following the controversy that the event announcement stirred, the boycott of the performance requests surged to the forefront once more, pleading with the government to deny a license to the French rapper due to his songs’ and lyrics’ misogynistic content.
The Casablanca Prefecture denied giving a permit to hold the ceremony and stated that the event is not under the council’s organization.
The Casablanca Prefecture indicated that the request for the permit was submitted to the regional security committee of the prefecture of Casablanca.
Hespress AR reported that the committee did not approve the request during their meeting in March.
The concert for Booba is scheduled for June 21 at the Mohammed V Sports Complex. The production firm and organizers have declared that they would continue to fight against the concert’s cancellation.
The organizing team is awaiting an explanation in case the event is called off and a license is not granted to them. Meanwhile, concert tickets are currently being sold online.
The French rapper made a blatantly sexist, misogynistic, and racist statement about Moroccan women in a song that was released in 2017.
Following the announcement of his concert in Casablanca, many urged a boycott of the event and a restriction on his entry into the country.
More than 4000 people have signed the boycott petition so far.
