The Khemissat “potash” production project in the Khemisset region, which is supervised by British company Emerson, is closer to to obtaining environmental approval, as the project’s pre-construction technical work made major progress in 2022, and is continuing to proceed through the start of the current year, according to the potash development company Emmerson plc.
The American corporation made engineering and improved water management plans in order to secure an environmental permit to launch the potash project.
Emmerson intends to use a water treatment strategy as well as the dry stack tailings storage technique for the best use of its water resources.
The Emmerson PLC company also hired initial lead arrangers, with a group of banks that include ING Bank, Banque Centrale Populaire, and Bank of Africa.
The banks will work together to provide the financing infrastructure needed to enable Khemissat’s potash development. A 230 million dollar financial credit will be set up by the banks.
Khemissat is perfectly situated to take advantage of the anticipated rapid increase in demand for NPK fertilizers on the continent of Africa.
According to the Golder Associates’ Scoping Study, Khemissat has the potential to be a potash mine with high margins and cheap capital costs—a relatively uncommon asset in the sector.
