The findings of a study conducted by researchers from the University Of Maryland School Of Medicine warned against using the AI ChatGPt while seeking medical advice, as it was caught using fake journal articles to support its claims.
The study noted that the AI answered one of ten questions about cancer wrong, stating that even the correct answers were not as comprehensive as those found through Google search, reported Daily Mail UK.
The researchers warned about the technology explaining how it used fake journal articles to support its claims.
While some answers were appropriate, others were “inaccurate or even fictitious.”
Dr. Paul Yi said, “We’ve seen in our experience that ChatGPT sometimes makes up fake journal articles or health consortiums to support its claims.”
The researchers advised people to rely on their doctors instead of the new technology, as they found that it changes answers to the same questions over time while demonstrating racial bias.
The research findings were published in the journal Radiology.
