The Moroccan passport lost two spots in a ranking for the most powerful passports in the world.

Allowing access to 65 countries without a visa, the Moroccan passport is ranked 80th in the quarterly ranking of the Henley Passport Index (HPI).

In January the country ranked in 80th place, before dropping three months later to the 82nd place.

Morocco is below the world average for mobility, as it occupies the same place as Cuba or Ghana.

In the Maghreb, Algeria ranked 94th with 53 destinations, far behind Mauritania which ranks 87th with 60 destinations.

The Moroccan passport is below the Tunisian passport which ranked 77th allowing access to 71 destinations around the world.

IThe Henley Passport Index, which tracks the power of passports by the number of countries accessed without a visa, worked on data from 199 passports and 227 travel destinations.

The Japanese passport is the most powerful in the world and allows access to 85% of the countries in the world, or 193 destinations in total.

It is followed by Singapore and South Korea, which retain their second place in the ranking with access to 192 visa-free destinations. Spain and Germany are the two countries of the European Union to be the best ranked, occupying 3rd place and allowing its citizens access to 190 destinations.

In 4th place are 3 countries, Finland, Italy and Luxembourg whose passport gives their citizens access to 189 visa-free destinations. Austria, Denmark, the Netherlands and Sweden are ranked 5th with 188 destinations followed in 6th place by France, Ireland, Portugal and the United Kingdom with 187 destination locations.

The United States comes in 7th position with 186 visa-free destinations, followed by Australia, Canada, the Czech Republic, Greece and Malta whose passports allow access to 185 visa-free destinations.

The countries with the most restrictions are Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria, followed by Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, Nepal, Palestine, Libya, Bangladesh and North Korea.

Only 6% of passports worldwide allow visa-free access to more than 70% of existing destinations, and only 17% of countries grant their passport holders visa-free access to more than four-fifths of the world’s 227 destinations.
