The National Association of Moroccan Fashion Designers has emerged as a unifying force for the country’s fashion industry, bringing together more than twenty leading designers under one roof. The organization aims to give the profession a legal standing and prevent the theft of original fashion designs by copycats.

At a news conference held on Tuesday, March 21 in Casablanca, the newly formed association’s president, stylist Meriem Boussikouk, expressed her frustration with the rampant theft of designs, particularly on social media, saying, “Stylists find it frustrating to create their models just to find them all over the place. With social networks in particular, it’s complete chaos.’’

The association’s main objective, as highlighted by prominent fashion designer Meryem Belkhayat, is to promote and safeguard the national heritage by establishing a professional framework for the industry. The NAMFD’s first order of business will be to organize an annual Fashion Week that showcases all Moroccan fashion designers, not just those specializing in traditional haute couture.

The NAMFD’s efforts are sure to have a positive impact on the Moroccan fashion industry, providing much-needed structure and support to designers, and promoting the country’s rich fashion heritage to the world.
