Netflix pulls plug on Mindhunter season 3, announces director David Fincher

American filmmaker David Fincher announced that his psychological series “Mindhunter” will not return for a third season because it is too expensive for Netflix, the production company.

“I’m very proud of the first two seasons. But it’s a very expensive show and, in the eyes of Netflix, we didn’t attract enough of an audience to justify such an investment (for season three),” said Fincher

The news came as a shock to all of the fans of the series who waited patiently ever since 2019

“Mindhunter” was a masterpiece delivered by David Fincher, the maestro of crafting stories about psychopaths, serial killers, mysteries, and morally ambiguous characters.

The director reminisced on his Netflix series about FBI agents profiling serial killers in an interview with the French magazine “Le Journal du Dimanche” before earning an honorary César award. The show premiered in 2017 and ran for two seasons.

For years, Fincher has neither acknowledged nor rejected the possibility of a third film, which gave fans all over the world hope that the show might come back, but it appears he has finally put “Mindhunter” to rest.

In an interview with “Vulture” in 2022, Fincher hinted that the show was “probably” done.

Fincher is behind the great movies “Fight Club”, “Seven” and “Seven.”

His fans and Mindhunter fan consider the series to be one of the great crime shows ever.

Based on two actual FBI agents who traveled across America in the 1970s interviewing some of the nation’s most disturbed and violent psychopaths, Mindhunter tells their story and provides a fascinating insight into how the FBI had to completely relearn everything they knew about catching serial killers—a term that didn’t even exist at the time the show started—after realizing that understanding the psychopath’s mind is the key to stopping further atrocities.

Over the two seasons, the thinking piece moved at a slow pace, giving viewers the chilliest of feelings thanks to Fincher’s direction and his singular approach to depicting a crime.
