French journalist Marion Dubreuil is live tweeting Saad Lamjarred’s trial for rape charges in Paris, which many Moroccans are now following, as they become increasingly disenchanted with the artist.

Judicial journalist Dubreuil created a Twitter thread where she live-tweets the trial, relaying all statements from the Moroccan artist.

Once the journalist quoted Saad as saying that he is from the middle class and that he moved to the United States at the age of 16 to finish his studies, the tweet in question drew a lot of attention.

The idea that the son of one of the most prominent Moroccan actresses, Nezha Regruari, and one of the country’s most well-known singers/songwriters, Bachir Abdou, is trying to pass as “middle class,” has angered Moroccans, who have taken to Twitter to vent their outrage.

The same Twitter threads reads that the singer didn’t get his high school degree because “he chose to follow his dreams.”

Many didn’t appreciate how Lamjarred, accompanied by a translator, wasn’t consistent in the way he was answering questions, as he kept switching from French to English, strictly avoiding to discuss his pre-fame rape case in the United States.

His lawyer clarified that they wish to focus on today’s trial.

As he was talking about how he paved his carrier, according to the journalist’s tweets, Lamjarred explained how Ghita Allaki who he married back in September 2022 was around him for years, and supported him throughout everything.

On how he makes his living now, Saad said that he makes from 10,000 to 15,000 US dollars a month from his music. The artist went on and on about how this pending trial has affected his career, his life and those around him for the past couple of years.

Lamjarred said during his appearance before the judge that he had waited seven years in order to be able to talk about the condition that caused him and his loved ones harm, indicating that he had suffered in recent years from the repercussions of this accusation, and from great pressures that reached the point of depression, but he tried to fight it.

“The theme of my music is love,” said the singer, although many from the audience denounced this statement. Twitter users shared some of Lamjarred’s lyrics from the song “Ghaltana” and “Enty,” which both have an unloving tone towards a hypothetical woman, with the songs depicting   disputes between a man and a woman.

The songs are explicit, as Lamjarred blames the female for certain things in the first song, and criticizes her standards in the second.

When his wife took the stand as a witness to the case, being his previous assistant and life long best friend, she explained that “the person I have been with for a long time is incapable of committing what he’s being accused of.”

Lamjarred, who admitted to cocaine use and drinking alcohol “occasionally back in the day,” strictly denied the rape charges filed by Laura B.

His wife said that she was aware of her husband’s drug use,  adding that she knew that he was innocent, and she had listened to his version of the matter, and she was completely convinced of his words and that he did not commit the acts attributed to him.

Lamjarred has a large following in Morocco, and was for long considered the Arab world’s starlet, taking over the Middle East and North Africa region with his successive and successful releases.

Many fans defended the Moroccan artist then the initial allegation first came to light, but soon after, more people started believing the charges after other women spoke up against Lamjarred, and the revelation of yet another rape accusation pending against him in the United States where he resided.

The trial is scheduled to continue until Friday.
