Mexico pays tribute to dog who died in turkey looking for earthquake survivors

Mexican authorities paid tribute to Proteo the dog, who died while searching for survivors in the rubble, following the devastating earthquake in Turkey.

The official Twitter account of the Mexican Secretariat of National Defense shared a photo of the dog, thanking the “hero” for accomplishing his “mission,” while the city of “Tlalnepantla de Baz” painted a mural of the dog.

Although the specific cause of death was not revealed, Mexican media reports that the German Shepard died while performing as a rescue dog.

Proteo was one of more than a dozen rescue dogs deployed by Mexico to assist in the disaster response efforts in Turkey.
