Several variables are making business tough for Moroccan farmers, as experts expect that some vegetables like peppers to see a decline in export numbers.
In light of the prolonged drought, peppers producers for instance are dealing with a fall of blossom due to the warmth, according to Yassine Tlati of the Moroccan exporting company, Aitr Zohour.
Exports volumes may decrease by as much as 40%, explained the specialist as read on FreshPlaza media.
Tlati added that it is well known that the ToBRFV virus is causing problems for many tomato producers, therefore affecting the crops.
According to Tlati, the ongoing drought is still having a serious impact on Moroccan agriculture, as farmers in the Chtouka region (next to Agadir) have dug wells that are 250 meters deep.
In Taroudant, where there is more water available, this issue is less severe.
“We used to grow watermelons, but this year there aren’t any watermelons on our calendars due to the drought,” he explained.
