The Royal Moroccan Football Federation denounced on Saturday “the vile practices and absurd maneuvers that accompanied the inauguration of the African Championship for local players” on Friday, in Algeria.
The Federation referred to Algeria’s actions as “flagrant violations of the laws governing football demonstrations that are held under the banner of the Confederation of African Football.”
The Moroccan authority also denounced the racist slogans held towards Moroccan supporters in the stadium.
The Federation announced that it has written to the Confederation of African Football “to assume its full responsibilities in the face of these blatant breaches that are far from the principles and ethics of football.”
Morocco could not take part in the CHAN championship, nor defend the title it won during the last two editions.
On December 22, 2022, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) informed the FRMF that “an authorization in principle had been obtained.”
The FRMF was awaiting final authorization from CAF, “which must be received from the Algerian authorities.” The Algerians refused the request.
Algerian Local Organizing Committee for the CHAN 2022 had previously voiced Algeria’s unwillingness to open its airspace for a direct flight from the Rabat to Constantine, where Morocco’s games were set to be played.
