Moroccan authorities, in a joint security operation with Spanish intelligence services dismantled today a terrorist belonging to ISIS, consisting of three people operating between the two countries.

A communiqué of the Central Office of Judicial Research stated that the interventions launched by the Special Forces of the General Directorate of National Territorial Surveillance resulted in the arrest of an extremist element in Chtoka Ait Baha, simultaneously with the arrest of the Spanish authorities of two other members who were active within the framework of the same terrorist cell in Almeria.

The ISIS members were active in spreading and promoting extremist ideology for the purpose of recruitment and had expressed their willingness to engage in terrorist operations after they were unable to join the strongholds of the terrorist organization in the Sahel region, where they have relations with fighters.

They are charged with recruiting and facilitating the entry of volunteers to “fight” into this area.

Inspection carried out in the house of the detainee in Chtouka Ait Baha led to the seizure of a set of digital equipment and props that will be subjected to the technical expertise, in addition to a mask, a white weapon , as well as manuscripts glorifying ISIS.

The person arrested in Morocco was placed under custody pending judicial investigations supervised by the Public Prosecution in charge of terrorism and extremism cases.

Spanish authorities will be tasked with conducting the necessary research and investigations with the two members of this cell arrested in Spain.

This joint security operation falls within the framework of the continuous security coordination between the Moroccan security services and their Spanish counterparts.
