Akhannouch sees success in government's implementation of medical, social coverage project

The government has succeeded, during the first year of its mandate, in making a “very positive” balance in the implementation of the medical and social coverage project,” the head of the government, Aziz Akhannouch, welcomed Tuesday in Rabat, stressing that the executive has achieved the “unprecedented” feat of laying the foundations of a compulsory institutional solidarity that will contribute to the protection of the rights of all citizens.

“The government has also facilitated the modalities of access to health services under decent conditions, to ensure equality among all Moroccans, regardless of their financial and professional situation,” Akhannouch said in response to an oral question on “the implementation of medical and social coverage projects,” during the monthly session on general policy in the House of Councilors.

He noted that the last few years have witnessed major challenges at the national level, challenges related to the weakness of medical coverage due to structural imbalances in the national health supply, in addition to the shortcomings of compulsory health insurance, “which has led to a feeling of dissatisfaction among citizens.”

Thus, the Government has begun, since the first weeks of its inauguration and in accordance with the agenda announced by His Majesty the King on the occasion of the 21st anniversary of the Glorious Throne Party, to prepare the ideal ground for building a modern system of social protection, remedying the various forms of dispersion that have marked previous programs, the Head of Government explained.

The Head of Government pointed out that, in one year, the total number of insured persons in the National Social Security Fund (CNSS) increased from 7.8 million to more than 23.2 million non-salaried persons and their beneficiaries, as well as 9.4 million members of the Compulsory Medical Insurance (SMO solidario).

“Data on access to care showed that the increase in the number of insured persons was parallel to the increase in the number of beneficiaries of the Fund, as the number of care files for the self-employed category for the year 2022 amounted to nearly 642,700 files, while the number of specific (Solidarity SMO) files for the month of December alone exceeded 53,400 files, to which must be added the 582,524 admissions to public hospitals (costing more than 233 million dirhams),” he said.
