A government source confirmed to Hespress AR that Morocco is maintaining its participating in the African Nations Championship 2023.

The same source stated that the Royal Moroccan Football Federation stipulated the direct passage of the national team’s plane from Morocco to the Algerian city of Constantine, highlighting that it had contacted “CAF” regarding the request.

The government source pointed out that Morocco is waiting for the response of the Confederation of African Football, “which must oblige Algeria to provide the appropriate conditions to ensure the participation of all teams.”

The source said that the national team of locals continues its preparations in the Mamoura Center in order to participate in this continental event.

The same source denied that the Royal Moroccan Football Federation had received a response by Algeria’s refusal to open its airspace so that the Moroccan national team’s plane could enter through a direct flight.

“Morocco is only demanding its natural right,” he said, stressing that the country hosting the event must fulfill its obligations.

Scheduled in Algeria from January 13 to February 4, 2023, the African Nations Championship 2022 will feature African teams of players playing in their national leagues, a competition where Morocco are the most decorated and successful in Africa since its start in 2007 with two titles.

The Moroccan federal body had demanded from CAF that the Cubs travel via a special flight of the Royal Air Morocco (RAM) official carrier from Rabat to Constantine, the host city of the games.

The Algerian Local Organizing Committee for the CHAN 2023 had said it was not taking responsibility in the opening of Algerian airspace for a direct flight from the Rabat to Constantine, where Morocco’s games are set to be played.
