Algerian Minister of Youth and Sports Abderrezak Sebkak said his country had received a request from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding Morocco’s demand for a direct flight route to take part in CHAN 2023.
Sebkak tells BeiN Sports, that the response of the Algerian authorities to the CAF request will come within 24 hours.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation president said in a response to questions from journalists during a press briefing he held following the government council that Morocco is awaiting an official response from CAF concerning the authorization requested.
President of the CHAN’s Organizing Committee, Rachid Oukali, previously said that “there is no provision for a direct air route,” explaining that “the majority of the participating teams will disband and move to Algeria coming from another country, and not via a direct flight.”
“CHAN’s board is committed to a warm welcome to all participating teams, and to providing all the appropriate conditions of residence in Algeria, as soon as they come,” he concluded.
CHAN 2023 is expected to take place across several Algerian cities from January 13 to February 4.
The participating teams have been divided into five groups, three of four teams and two of three teams each.
