The Ministry of Transport and Logistics has completed the preparation of a draft law, which would have transport prices match up to fuel prices, in response to strong demands of such regulation from the profession’s representatives.
The indexation of road transport prices on the fuel cost index, the prices will see parties involved in transport to revise the price of road transport initially agreed upon, by applying to the fuel charges the variation of the fuel cost index.
The change in cost can be made between the date of the agreement or contract, the date of its completion and delivery of the service, when this variation exceeds the 5% threshold.
The regulation, which has yet to go through the legislative process, concerns transport operations of goods and merchandise, passengers, and vehicles used for service purposes.
The Ministry of Transport and Logistics will, on a monthly basis, determine and publish a reference price for the price of gasoline, which will be used in concluding transport contracts, provided that for each type of vehicle, the share of fuel costs as a percentage of the total transportation price is published.
The requirements stress that the change in fuel costs must be reflected in transportation deals, whether through raising or lowering the price.
Hespress AR report that the legislation is expected to enter into force six months after its publication on Official Bulletin.
Not respecting the new price ranges will result in financial fines ranging between MAD 10,000 and MAD 50,000.
This measures is introduced as the transportation sector continues to suffer from rising fuel prices amid a global inflation.
Despite disbursed government aid, the professional maintain that the cost of transport is rising significantly, with many actors recording severe losses.
