The French Foreign Affairs Ministry announced Thursday that Minister Catherine Colonna is expected to travel to Morocco on December 15 on a two-day official visit.
A government spokeswoman told the French Press agency that Colonna will discuss with Moroccan officials the issue of visas, as well as prepare a draft program for President Emmanuel Macron’s visit scheduled for January,” added the same source.
“The minister will arrive on the evening of the 15th and will hold a meeting the next day with her counterpart, Moroccan Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita,” said the spokeswoman.
“Both parties will discuss all issues of bilateral relations,” she added, specifically the visa issue.
A press conference is expected to be held the following day of the bilateral meeting, further stated the same source.
The spokeswoman did not specify whether the Western Sahara issue would be discussed during the minister’s visit or not.
Macron’s government kept a skeptical stance on Morocco’s autonomy plan, stating, “it is only a project that is not yet put into place.”
The French government planned months ago to visit Morocco, in a move to reboost diplomatic relations.
Paris said it wants to relax its policy on visas, in an effort to warm up bilateral relations.
