Morocco has reportedly opposed the appointment of a new visa officer at the Spanish Consulate in Tetouan.
According to the Iberian media the Objective, the kingdom would have explained this decision by the fact that the official also holds Moroccan nationality.
Last August, the Official Spanish State Gazette (BOE) published the appointment of Abdelilah Lamri El Ayadi as Head of Visas at the Consulate General of Spain.
The Spanish official went to Tetouan at the beginning of September to start his mission, with his service passport. However, a few days later, the diplomat reportedly received Rabat’s refusal to recognize his residence permit and diplomatic status.
Morocco referred to a “legal impediment” to explain its veto according to a spokesman for the Diplomatic Information Office at the Spanish Foreign Ministry explained.
“Morocco considers that a binational cannot have diplomatic accreditation in this country and in this case, this circumstance has occurred”, recognizes the department of José Manuel Albares.
Spain is doing the same with Morocco since it does not allow another country to accredit Spanish nationals in Madrid to sensitive positions such as that of a visa manager.
