Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) said he “welcomes” Morocco’s presentation of its application to host the 2025 edition of the African Cup of Nations (CAN) with the goal of “organizing the best competition in Africa.”
Motsepe said he was enthusiastic in receiving applications from nations interested in hosting the 2025 edition of the African Cup of Nations (CAN).
“Morocco has often hosted large-scale competitions and has sometimes been the only country to host a new competition. I am very grateful to Morocco for this,” he said in a statement to the press upon his arrival at Salé airport.
The CAF President also said he was “delighted” to visit Morocco again, a country that has “a deep commitment” to developing football in the Kingdom and in Africa as a whole.
Patrice Motsepe insisted that football must above all be “a means of bringing people together and forging links between all our countries, because the round ball is our passion”.
Morocco announced early October intentions to present its candidacy for the organization of the African Cup of Nations, .
The organization of the continental football competition had been withdrawn from Guinea by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which had considered that “in the current state, the infrastructure and equipment are not suitable or ready” for the country to host the CAN in 2025.
The announcement was made by Patrice Motsepe, president of CAF, after meetings in Conakry with the Guinean sports authorities and the president of the transition, Mamadi Doumbouya.
Morocco boasts six high-level stadiums in Casablanca, Marrakech, Tangier, Agadir, Fes, and Rabat and is currently rehabilitating stadiums in Tetouan, Oujda, Laayoune, Nador, and Kenitra to comply with international standards.
