French painter Pierre Soulages, known for his canvases exploring different uses of the colour black, has died at age 102, his longtime friend Alfred Pacquement told AFP Wednesday.
“It’s sad news, I’ve just hung up the phone with his widow Colette Soulages,” said Pacquement, who is also president of the Soulages museum in Rodez, southern France.
