Violence erupted during Friday’s Boulevard concert in Casablanca, with fans sharing shocking accounts of physical, sexual assault, and a near life threatening stampede.
Social media was ravaged by accounts from attendees, who reported that security was not up to par, adding that the unexpected high attendance to the free concert overwhelmed organizers and security personnel.
Chaos rained in the RUC stadium, as fans rushed through the gates to watch their favorite rappers live. As the main scene reached full capacity, fans took over the grandstands, with some resorting to violence.
L’Boulevard security decided to close all the entries and exits to contain the crowd, which resulted in further disorder, with people stuck alongside their aggressors with nowhere to go.
Attendees shared their shocking experiences on social media, many attesting to the use of white arms, repurposed metal bars from the concert tents and screwdrivers.
People reported thefts, sporadic beatings, group fights and distressing sexual assault allegations, with many calling on authorities to urgently identify perpetrators.
The festival’s organizers denied rumors of cancellation of the remaining concerts, apologizing to their fans and condemning the unprecedented violence.
“To all of you, the L’Boulevard team apologizes and condemns acts of vandalism, which do not honor the spirit of the festival, nor that of its public and its artists,” said a statement from L’Boulevard.
Bilal Fraiha, a podcast host and content creator present at the scene documented the unfortunate event as it unfolded.
He said that police did not intervene despite being repeatedly asked to. He shared numerous anonymous testimonies of people’s experiences that night, with some stating that they required urgent medical care after the event.
