An average of 95% of young Moroccans living in Europe visit Morocco and 61% of them do so annually, according to a study conducted by the Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad (CCME).
About 85% of these young people master the language of the host country, despite a feeling in some cases of being victims of racism, said the study, adding that 80% of the interviewees declared themselves confident about their professional career.
These young people link their future to Morocco through the image they have of the kingdom, further stated the study, adding that, “64% of them said that education should be the priority sector for the Kingdom in terms of investment, alongside the services, industry and tourism sectors.”
“Two-thirds of the respondents expressed their desire to return to invest in their country of origin, while nationals living in Germany and Italy seem to be the most doubtful in this respect,” added CCME’s study.
The majority of interviewees also expressed low satisfaction with the services provided by Moroccan institutions, and a third expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of implementation of reforms, including 41% declaring themselves dissatisfied with international transport, and 48% dissatisfied with consular services, and 52% dissatisfied with justice.
The study also set the main focus on developing a better understanding of the reality, opinions, and challenges of young Moroccans living in Europe, as well as contributing to the enrichment of discussions on public policies targeting this community.
In this study, the CCME based itself on a survey conducted in collaboration with the company Ipsos, which has been assisting institutions in the elaboration of strategic studies and surveys at the European level since 1975, as well as on face-to-face interviews with young Moroccans residing in Europe, in accordance with the scientific rules on sampling and statistics.
The study entitled “the situation of young Moroccans living in Europe,” involved 1,433 young Moroccans aged between 18 and 35, living in six European countries, namely France, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Germany, and the Netherlands.
