The Caminando Fronteras Organization announced on Monday, the death of a sub-Saharan woman shot by the Moroccan Gendarmerie during an operation to prevent the departure of a skiff heading to the Canary Islands.

The operation was carried out by the Moroccan authorities in the early hours of Sunday to Monday, in which three men were wounded by gunshot and admitted later in a hospital, according to Helena Maleno, the NGO’s spokesperson, who explained to EFE that the accounts were collected through a witness.

The boat carried 35 people, including 29 Sub-Saharan and 6 Moroccans, and was located between Tarfaya and Akhfenir, according to the same source.

The authorities aborted the departure by firing several shots, which killed the woman with a bullet in the chest and wounded three other men. Two more men were injured when they were run over by police vehicles, added Maleno to EFE.

The woman’s death and the three injuries were a result of the authorities’ “warning shots”, according to Bladna24.

The local media added that one of the injured who was shot in the back is the son of the Akhfenir mayor.

The body of the deceased was placed in the morgue of the regional hospital center Moulay Hassan bin Al-Mahdi in El Aaiun, where the wounded are also admitted, according to the same source.
