A 33-year-old Dutchman was arrested at Tangier airport on Tuesday, for his involvement in two robberies at two German banks. The man is wanted internationally by Interpol and Germany.
German authorities suspect the man is linked to a criminal network engaged in armed robberies and theft. He would have stolen 186,000 euros during raids on two bank branches in the German cities of Kist and Gaertringen, according to Dutch Media AD.
The cooperation between Moroccan state police and the European security forces has led to the arrest of the Dutchman, who has been wanted by German police for a long time.
He is expected to be extradited in due course to Germany, where he will face trial for the alleged crimes, stresses the same source.
The arrest is part of the international fight against cross-border crime, according to Moroccan authorities.
The reason for his destination choice remains unclear.
