Morocco’s National Federation of consumers rights called on the French Embassy in a letter to compensate Moroccan nationals whose Schengen visa applications were rejected.
The FMDC requested in a letter addressed to Hélène Le Gal, the Ambassador of France in Morocco to ”intervene with the various consulates of the French Republic in Morocco by inviting them to refund the costs of visas not issued“, according to SchengenVisaInfo, an outlet specialized in Schengen-related news.
“The intermediary company between the Consulate and the consumer does not have the authority to hold the personal data of the latter,” expressed the Federation, according to the same source.
“The restrictions of the granting of this document were imposed by the government of France without having informed the consumer applying for a visa of the new terms of issue,” stressed the letter.
Since February, France began systematic rejections of Visa granted to Moroccans of all classes, whether executives, doctors, students, or many others.
The decision dates back to September 2021 when Paris announced that it would reduce the number of visas granted to Algerian and Moroccan citizens by 50% and to Tunisians by 30%, due to the refusal of the three Maghreb countries to return their citizens who are in irregular situations.
Moroccans obtained more than 98,000 entry visas to France, compared to 346,000 in 2019, about 303,000 in 2018, and 295,000 in 2017, according to data issued by the French Ministry of the Interior in 2020.
