After several public testimonies about unjustified French visa refusals for Moroccan nationals went viral, French representatives took up the issue, addressing President Macron as well as consular representations.
France continued to restrict access to the metropolitan territory. As the refusals kept increasing and becoming almost systematic since the reopening of the borders last February, Moroccans got angrier with the everlasting situation.
Many Moroccans keep reapplying despite the delays and costly procedures or go through other Schengen countries to finally arrive in France.
All profiles and social classes, whether executives, doctors, students, or many others are on the same boat, the refusal of visas remains without reason.
Moroccans weren’t the only concerned party in this French decision but visas granting got reduced by 50% for Algerians as well and 30% for Tunisians.
The announcement was made a few months earlier by the French authorities, who reproach those countries for not repatriating their nationals with irregular situations, as well as some migrants who have carried the trip through their territory.
The senator Yan Chantrel, who has visited the concerned countries and who’s also a member of the Senate’s Committee of Culture, Education and Communication questioned the matter since the increase of the claims those last month not understanding the reasons for this decision.
“The unjust consequences of the French government’s arbitrary decision to drastically reduce the number of visas issued by France to nationals of Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia,” the senator expressed on Twitter adding that “on the ground, the consequences of this retaliatory measure are felt by the people who have nothing to do with it”.
Chantrel shared on Twitter the letter he sent to French President Emmanuel Macron on the matter starting with the fact that “this measure was to put “a threat in execution” according to the government spokesman, Gabriel Attlal, who spoke on September 28, 2021”.
He, as well, invoked his last visit to the three countries to inform him of the injustice provoked by the French decision in these territories and to affirm that the matter shouldn’t involve the population.
“I would particularly like to draw your attention to the situation of students from Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia, for whom this drastic decrease in the number of visas issued by France is very perverse,” he explained in the letter.
The senator asked to urgently review these cynical arrangements of retaliation against the governments of the countries in question adding that the policy for issuing visas in France must be fair while considering human rights.
