Wearing masks is expected to become mandatory, again, in Germany’s stores and administrations, starting October to protect against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The German Länder are to make the decision for their territory themselves. This is provided for in a draft law on protection against infection, as the Federal Minister of Health, Karl Lauterbach (SPD), and the Federal Minister of Justice, Marco Buschmann (FDP), jointly indicated.

“Masks protect”, said Marco Buschmann. In certain situations, the obligation to wear a mask is therefore reasonable, he insisted.

The German Minister of Health had recommended a fourth dose of vaccine against COVID-19 for people under 60 years.
