The US streaming platform Netflix lost a total of 970,000 subscribers for the period from the first to the second quarter of this year, announced the company Tuesday.

‌For now, the service totals 220.67 million subscribers worldwide, while it lost several subscribers for the first time in ten years during the first quarter, added the same source.

‌Additionally, the US and Canada represent the countries with the highest number of subscriber losses and cancelations, followed by Europe.

‌This increase in cancelations in those countries comes from Netflix’s rise in the monthly subscription price by USD 1 to USD 2 per month earlier this year.

‌Netflix expects to regain one million subscribers in the third quarter, and reach 221.67 million paying subscribers.

‌The US multinational company has witnessed the most intense competition ever from companies seeking to attract viewers to online entertainment, including Walt Disney Co, Apple Inc, WarnerMedia, and Amazon Inc.
