Movie and series streaming leader Netflix will screen Moroccan Director Lotfi Ait Jaoui’s new satiric movie “Shatah.”

Translating to “The dancer,” the film tells the story of a young man named “Rabie” who comes from a conservative family, as he attempts to make it as a dancer when given the opportunity of a lifetime.

“Rabie,” portrayed by actor Abdulilah Rashid, faces an immense challenge between accepting the offer which will turn him into a professional and successful dancer, or giving up on his passion to please his family.

The films follows the protagonist as he navigates a plethora of choices and social restrictions and obstacles, namely society’s stance on this type of art.

The director of the “Shatah” movie highlighted that “this film discusses society’s view of the dance profession, along with many values inspired by reality. It also passes on many humanitarian messages; One of which is not to prejudge people without knowing their stories,” said Ait Jaoui.

Ait Jaoui assigned the leading roles in this film to the actors Abdelilah Rachid, Benaissa El Jirari, Jawad Al Sayeh, Asmaa Khamlichi, and other artists whom the director says added their own touches to the picture.

The film features the participation of folklore singer Oumaima Baazia and famous make-up artist Jawad Kanana, which had sparked ample controversy during filming.

Ait Jaoui responded to this controversy saying: “I was surprised by the uproar that Baazia’s participation in the work caused, as she embodied the role of “Sheikha” and perfected it with her spontaneous performance during filming. The same applies to Kananah, who played his role professionally.”
