The National Commission of Medical Students is denouncing the possible integration of Ukraine students within public faculties, driving their protest hashtag to the number one trending spot on Twitter today.

‌Listing the various problems that the health sector is experiencing, the National Commission of Medical Students says it refuses the integration of Moroccan students who returned from Ukraine, arguing it poses a danger to the quality of medical studies in Morocco.

‌Across social media, the future doctors argue that “the quality of medical training is a red line,” saying that considering the existing issues medical students are facing, increasing the number of students is unacceptable. ‌

“Instead of taking decisions to expand the hospital training grounds and improve the quality of medical and pharmaceutical training as promised, the two ministries in charge continue to be intransigent and act unilaterally through policies that threaten the country’s health sector,” said the commission in a statement.

‌The medical students’ representative body claims that the government’s decisions “are undermining what we consider to be the foundation on which the system rests.”

‌The commission assures that the “quality of the human capital of the medical sector is at stake,” calling for all sector professionals to speak out against the possible inclusion.

‌“With all the problems currently present in the Moroccan health sector, officials promised to integrate students returning from Ukraine,” says the student collective, adding that its members have unanimously expressed their absolute rejection of this approach, which, according to them, “is a direct threat” to medical training in Moroccan faculties.

‌The group believes that the current status-quo across hospitals and universities clearly shows it is impossible for the facilities to fully and properly absorb the number of students expected to integrate the public medical training field. ‌

In protest, the committee announces the organization of several simultaneous demonstrations at the national level in all public faculties of medicine, pharmacy and dentistry in Morocco, starting this week.

‌The commission additionally called for a sit-in in Rabat, and a national strike in-hospital training centers on July 5.

‌On June 21, the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, Abdellatif Miraoui had indicated in parliament thatMoroccan students returning from Ukraine will see their situation settled in July, proposing integration through entrance exams, which the Ukraine students in turn, are protesting against.
