The Spanish far-right party Vox requested that the government cancels the border-opening agreement with Morocco, according to Spanish media outlets.
In a series of party proposals, Vox linked the reopening of the borders to the Kingdom’s “official and explicit recognition” of “indisputable Spanish sovereignty over all Spanish lands and territorial waters located in North Africa,” said the same source.
Additionally, Vox proposed removing the two cities from the Schengen zone, increasing the population presence in Ceuta and Melilla, reinforcing the number of National Police and Civil Guard troops, and establishing an emergency military unit.
The party also called for the maintenance of support measures such as “discounts on the transport of goods and people, promoting the construction of an airport in Ceuta and increasing state investment in the port, tourism and industrial sectors of the two cities,” added the same source.
The opening of borders came after both countries strengthened diplomatic ties, as Spain stood behind Morocco’s autonomy plan for Western Sahara in March.
The first phase of the reopening began at midnight on May 17, at which time citizens and residents of the European Union and those authorized to move into the Schengen area were able to enter Spanish territory through the El Tarajal crossing in Ceuta and Beni Enzar in Melilla.
The date set coincided with the first anniversary of the massive entry into Ceuta of about 8,000 Moroccan in Ceuta.
The second phase kickstarted on May 31, when legally recognized cross-border workers were able to enter Spanish territory, but with stricter conditions.
Morocco will not give up an inch of its occupied lands، and there will come a day when all Moroccan lands, including Andalusia, will return to the fold of the Moroccan empire.
